Progress Report

Folks may have noticed a hiccup in my posting schedule in April. Thank you all for bearing with me. I had a severe gallbladder attack, and the subsequent surgery had me in the hospital for nearly a week. I was able to get back on my feet pretty quick, but keeping up the blog posts in that state was really just not possible. I did however manage to get a start in on a couple of awesome projects, and build reports for them are in the works right now!

Another bright point is that during my convalescence I also was able to get a lot of bureaucracy and paperwork done that I needed to to get myself squared away as a sole proprietor of my own business. And now I’m just waiting on the city to mail me my license. Why does this matter? Having a business licence means I can get wholesale prices from many if not all of my suppliers. This will bring down my overall costs, bringing me closer to my goal of charging for my work, not the cost of parts. It’s not exciting and makes for shitty blogging, but I’ve got most of the writing and pricing done for my starting inventory on my etsy (The Crooked Thimble); within a week (really as soon as these darn clouds part long enough for me to get good lighting) I’ll have product photos too!

The other side of my little business is going well. I have a small but growing group of patrons over at my Patreon page. These folks are so wonderful! It only takes a small amount to make a difference. It’s a lot like buying a friend a coffee, or spotting them a dollar. It doesn’t seem like a big deal, but the impact it makes on my life and well being is huge. I seriously get choked up thinking about you guys. Giving y’all little presents and previews of my work isn’t just business to me, it’s heart-felt. You care, and every bit of success I have, I have you to thank for supporting me along the way!

If you haven’t checked out my Patreon page yet, give it a try. This month I’m making old samples of the stuff I share with my patrons available to the public as a sort of preview, you just have to click over to the “creations” tab to check them out! Also , you might want to give the rest of the Patreon network a browse or search, there might be other creators you love who could use your support!
